Historical Notes:

Trajanopolis was an ancient city in Phrygia, in what is now western Turkey. It was founded around AD 109 during the reign of Hadrian by the Grimenothyritae, a Phrygian tribe, and named after the Roman emperor Trajan. It was a large and prosperous enough settlement to mint its own coins, and is mentioned in records of the Roman church as being an episcopal see up to the 13th century.
