OBVERSE: Goose standing right, head reverted; lizard above, retrograde N below.

REVERSE: Quadripartite incuse square.

 

Grade/Notes:

Good Fine. Obverse fields toned a deep, attractive blue. Typical granular surfaces.  

 

Historical Notes:

Eion was a Macedonian seaport town that occupied a strategic location at the mouth of the river Strymon.  It issued a small but charming series of fractional silver coinage in the 5th century BC featuring the geese that were presumably plentiful along the shores and marshlands near the town.
